You can experience yourself that this proverb is not always right.
For example, on June 21st (beginning of summer) you just have to travel to a place at 23,5° of northern latitude (tropic of cancer) . Then, you will see that - at noontime - your own shadow will disappear.
About 2000 years ago, the Greek erudite Eratosthenes did measurements in Egypt and so, he determined the circumference and radius of the earth.
On 21st June 2004 we want to do such measurements in co-operation with as many partners (schools, members of astronomy associations/clubs, hobby astronomers, interested laymen, .... ) as possible.
